SHANNONSIDE, MAY 25, 2009
The Passion Fruit theatre group says its seeking legal advice after the lease on its Athlone premises was terminated without notice. The group took up residence at an old hall at 9 Northgate Street five years ago, however the owners recently removed the theatre sign from outside the building, and put up another sign advertising the premises for rent or lease. At a public meeting last week the company refuted rumours that they are in financial difficulty. It also says it has received no complaints from the Landlord or local residents regarding noise levels during music concerts or drama productions. Around 100 thousand euro of public money has been spent on the hall in the past year to provide a stage and tiered seating, and other facilities. Speaking on Lets Talk Earlier, Secretary of the Theatre Company Fiona Ducke urged the owners to make contact and resolve the issue.
